Master of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies
The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Multidisciplinary Studies in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) allows students to design a program as unique as they are, building on personal interests, academic strengths and career opportunities.
The M.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies program is highly customizable and integrates courses from up to three academic disciplines at UIW that offer graduate programs. The breadth of courses and academic experiences are the broadest of any graduate program throughout the University.
With approval from program directors and the dean of CHASS, a student might combine courses in Education, Communication Arts and Pastoral Ministry, for instance, or another three areas that would enhance his or her career opportunities. Another student may choose to tailor their academic journey with courses in Nutrition, Education and Biology. Another still may combine Business Administration (MBA), Organizational Development and Leadership, and Communication.
Working with the dean of CHASS and the directors of each of the programs integrated into the degree plan, students get personalized guidance from subject matter experts, helping to ensure the program that they design is "right for them."

Curriculum
While all programs are rigorous, the variety of courses and potential to create a highly specific plan of study mean that no two academic experiences in the M.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies are the same.
At their core, the Multidisciplinary Studies graduate program requires the following of all students:
- At least nine (9) credit hours in each discipline of focus
- Any support courses taken outside the chosen disciplines require the approval of the dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
- At least one research course
- A thesis or a capstone experience in one area of focus that incorporates the integration of all disciplines from which work is taken
Degree plans must be approved and signed by the dean and program directors for all disciplines before initiating any work toward the degree.
